Equine Functional Posture!

Create Your Horse's Power Posture To Enhance Their Wellbeing & Performance.

"Sometimes what we think is a horse saying no, is really a horse saying "I physically can’t". Learning to recognize the difference is an essential horsemanship skill."

~ Heather Swan
It’s nice to meet you!

As a veterinarian I became frustrated by constantly treating the symptoms and not addressing the underlying cause.

As a horse owner I became frustrated with not understanding why my horses were behaving "badly".

I recognised that there was a much deeper layer to be addressed to create healing.

That's when I began my deep exploration of bodywork, anatomy, biomechanics and the relationship to functional posture.

My journey has highlighted the connection between posture, behaviour and performance.

Online Consultations

I offer online consultations to support horse owners looking for expert guidance in injury rehabilitation, postural improvement, and long-term soundness strategies—wherever you are located.

With formal qualifications, extensive clinical experience, and years spent teaching Injury, Disease, and Rehabilitation, Exercise Physiology and Equine Locomotion in the Bachelor of Equine Science program at Charles Sturt University, rehabilitation is an area I am deeply passionate about.

Supporting horses through recovery—by addressing the underlying cause and starting targeted rehabilitation exercises early—is critical to long-term success.

How Online Consultations Work:

  • A thorough assessment  I assess your horse’s history, current status, and movement (via video analysis and discussion).
  • Individualised Rehabilitation Plan
Through a detailed online consultation with you on Zoom, I create a tailored, step-by-step rehabilitation plan, with clear exercises, progressions, and support to help you implement it confidently at home.

My aim is to empower you with knowledge, practical tools, and clear pathways—so you can actively support your horse’s recovery and future well-being.

Even from a distance, we work together to build strength, balance, and a better quality of movement for your horse.

What is Equine Functional Posture?
Equine Functional Posture is about how your horse organises their body to move, balance, and perform.
Good functional posture means that the horse can carry themselves with ease, strength, and coordination—reducing strain, improving performance, and supporting long-term soundness.
By learning to assess and influence posture early, we can help prevent injuries, enhance comfort, and build a better foundation for any discipline.

  • In-Person Clinics
Offered across Australia, these clinics run over 2 to 8 days, combining theory, practical demonstrations, and hands-on practice.
You'll learn how to assess your horse’s posture and movement, identify patterns of imbalance, and apply practical strategies to promote healthier function.
Clinics are open to horse owners and horse professionals passionate about learning more about their horses, as well as equine bodyworkers looking to expand their assessment and therapeutic tools.

  • Online Course
For those who prefer to learn from home or need a flexible option, my online course covers key principles of equine biomechanics, functional posture assessment, and practical techniques you can start applying right away to support better movement and well-being.

No matter your starting point, my goal is to empower you with real-world skills, deeper understanding, and the confidence to make meaningful improvements to your horse’s health and performance.
